The purpose of the programme is to support projects and activities which are important to a community that benefit local people.
Groups may apply for one Empowering Local Communities grant per year of between £500 and £1,500.
Who can apply
Applications will be accepted from local community groups and organisations based in the UK.
The following criteria apply:
- Groups must have a presence in and benefit the local community and be not for profit.
- Any equipment funded is the property of the group and is not for individual use.
- End beneficiaries must be community groups of people.
- There is no minimum timescale for how long the group has been in existence.
Eligible costs and projects under each theme supported by the programme include the following:
Building Resilient Communities
Supporting community groups with the equipment, essentials and facilities to enable activity to take place. This might be enhancing what is already available, providing core items or enabling an activity to continue.
Active Lives
Supporting participation in group physical activities. Whether low or high impact, regardless of age or ability, encouraging people to lead more active lifestyles and for everyone to feel able to participate.
Seasonal Celebrations & Festivals
Enabling communities to celebrate what matters to them. Helping to bring people together to share experiences and encouraging everyone within the community to be together, eg Easter, Holi, Passover, The Queen's Platinum Jubilee, community garden party etc.
Leading Healthier Lives
From cooking and education classes to enabling positive mental health. Asda Foundation is seeking to support health in body, mind and soul in UK communities
How to apply
Application forms can be obtained from Asda Community Champion Cathy Robinson carobin.s04922.uk@wal-mart.com or from Westbrook Asda store.
There are two different application forms, one for groups that are government entity organisations and another for groups who are non-government entities. (Guidance notes on completing these forms are available on the Asda Foundation website.)
All applications must be made via the applicant's local Asda Community Champion; applications made directly by organisations will not be accepted by the Foundation.
NB: Applications should be submitted at least six weeks before activities are due to begin to give enough processing time. Groups are also advised to get applications in as soon as the round opens, no more than four weeks before the deadline to ensure the champions have time to review, ask you questions and prepare for submission to the foundation's main panel for assessment.
