Mandy Taviner - Learning Disabilities

I am the manager of a thriving Warrington based 3rd sector organisation. Warrington Speak Up is an independent advocacy organisation actively promoting social inclusion, equality and social justice. Our aim is to strengthen the voice of people living in Warrington who face discrimination, disadvantage or social isolation. This mission is carried out in such a way as to affirm the dignity, individuality and integrity of each individual, ensuring their rights as ordinary citizens are protected. In addition we seek to champion change within the field of health and social care. We work with people disadvantaged through age, mental illness, disability, ill health, family and social circumstances.

Warrington Speak Up is commissioned to provide both statutory advocacy services under the new Care Act 2014 and non-statutory advocacy services. We facilitate regular established groups to specifically meet the needs of adults with learning difficulties and disabled young people, service users in receipt of housing related support, homeless and carers. Through a range of weekly and monthly groups, consultation events and individually commissioned participation and engagement activity, individuals have the opportunity to develop their self-advocacy skills, to ensure their voice is heard within decision making processes, to evaluate the effectiveness and quality of services commissioned by the local authority and CCG and to contribute to the commissioning and delivery of new services. In addition Warrington Speak Up through all its activities has sought to influence the development and implementation of local agendas and commissioning priorities within health and social care reform in order to improve outcomes for local people, particularly those with learning disability.

As manager I represent the organisation and 3rd sector on the following forums and boards:
  • Warrington Autism and Learning Disability Partnership Board (Co chair)
  • Mental Health Partnership Board
  • Disabled Children’s and Young People’s Strategic Group
  • Learning Disability Provider Forum
  • Safeguarding Forum
