Review of the Council's Housing Allocation Policy

Review of the Council's Housing Allocation Policy

The council is seeking your views about the  changes it is proposing to make to its Housing Allocations Policy and follows consultation meetings with housing providers during the past 12 months.

The draft policy consultation period runs for 21 Days from :

Monday 23rd January 2017 to Sunday 12th February 2017

Every council has a document, called a “Housing Allocations Policy” this sets out:

  • Who can apply to go on the Housing Register
  • Who will be eligible for housing that becomes available to the council

The key changes being proposed are:

  • Instead of using the bidding system, Chooseahome (managed by Golden Gates Housing Trust on behalf of the Council) for allocating homes to households on the Housing Register, applicants will be awarded housing based on their assessed requirements.
  • This means taking into account specific criteria about their need for housing, their level of priority and time spent on the Housing Register
  • This Policy will be subject to an Equality Impact Assessment that demonstrates they have taken into account the impacts – negative and positive for each of the 9 protected groups under the Equality Act 2010.
