DBS - Disclosure & Barring Service

Warrington Voluntary Action is a registered umbrella body empowered to process DBS checks for the staff and volunteers of Third Sector organisations in Warrington.

Our charges for this service are as follows:

Volunteers - £9 (administration fee)

Staff - £44 (cost of check) + £9 (administration fee) = £53

Nominated Person:

For every organisation utilising the WVA DBS service, we request that your organisation nominates a person to be the main point of contact for the service.  This will be the individual who is dealing with the forms and applicants, not the person responsible for the organisation as a whole.  This person will become what we call an Evidence Checker, if you are a large organisation you may wish to have multiple Evidence Checkers.  All Evidence Checkers must go through the induction process.

How our process works:

  • Firstly, risk asses the opportunity and then the volunteer / staff member doing the opportunity to establish if they are eligible for DBS
  • Use our webform to request form(s) - an invoice will be raised by request and provided with the forms.
  • Form(s) will be available to collect either from the Gateway or posted to your organisation (additional costs may apply).
  • Applicant completes the forms following the guidelines on the form and our guidance notes.
  • The nominated person from your organisation checks the form thoroughly ensuring all the relevent sections have been completed.
  • Payment MUST be returned with the completed forms or within 10 days of receipt of invoice.
  • WVA will then check the form for clarity, it will be signed by our Registered Person and then forwarded to DBS.

Note:- if a form is returned to WVA with mistakes which have been made negligently, an additional admin fee (£9) will be charged for a replacement form and process to be repeated.

Under the new DBS guidelines, it may no longer be necessary to perform checks for certain roles. Please check our page on regulated activity and workforces for the latest information, and to see whether a check is needed.

If the role is eligible, the form(s) can be requested from WVA by completing this webform

We have also created a guidance and advice page to help you complete the form as quickly and efficiently as possible. Please visit this page before filling out your form(s).
