Activity Facilitator for Making Space

What would I be doing?

On average, around 15 to 20 people go to the centre on Allen Street regularly. They get involved in various activities such as cooking groups, health and wellbeing, music, quizzes and sometimes people like to sit and chat to someone. We are looking for volunteers to support the existing activities at the centre and to increase the number of different activities taking place.

•Assist staff and other volunteers with activities.
•Spend time with people, to build a rapport and to provide emotional support.
•Encourage people to get involved in things they enjoy e.g. quizzes, reading, games, arts and crafts, music. This could be supporting people to do this one to one or in groups.
•You will have the opportunity to run activity groups using your hobbies, interests and skills.
•To carry out role in accordance with organisation health and safety policy.
•To respect people’s confidentiality and to report concerns when appropriate.

What skills do I need?

Some knowledge of mental health conditions is useful but not essential. We are looking for people that are reliable, friendly, caring, have good communication skills and are good at motivating other people. You will have the opportunity to bring some of your hobbies/interests to your volunteering and run activities relating to this.

Making Space is a national charity and leading provider of adult health and social care services. We provide care and support in the community, in people’s own homes, as well as specialist residential care services for vulnerable adults and carers.

Warrington Day Centre is a space for people living with mental health conditions to socialise and to get involved in meaningful activities to help build confidence and skills to support people to achieve their goals.

Recruitment and training details:

As part of the application process, a DBS (Disclosure Barring Check) will be carried out. This is free of charge and support will be given with this. A positive disclosure does not disqualify you from volunteering with us. Reasonable travel expenses paid for. Relevant training to the role provided such as online awareness sessions and short courses. Full support provided.
