Family Support Volunteer for Home-Start Warrington

Role Type: Regular
Based: All of Warrington
Categories: Supporting people
Does this opportunity include close supervision / mentoring?: Yes
Does this opportunity require independent working?: Yes

What would I be doing?

As a family support volunteer, you will be supporting a family with at least one child under 4 during school hours by offering a listening ear or giving them some practical help in the home. Due to covid, home visits will only take place when families and volunteers feel comfortable - there will be times that visits take place outside of the home in local parks and community centres. Often families appreciate having someone to attend playgroups with or other groups for babies and toddlers. We ask that each mentor offers 3 hours a week of their time for a minimum period of one year.

What skills do I need?

To be a parent, to be able to listen in a non-judgemental way. To understand the importance of confidentiality and safeguarding and child development – these will be taught in the preparation course. To be able to express empathy and understand boundaries.

About Home-Start Warrington

Home-Start is a family support charity that has been in Warrington for over 20 years – supporting thousands of families when they are struggling for many reasons -such as disability, mental health, bereavement and financial pressures. A family support volunteer helps them to feel heard and supported

Recruitment and training details:

All volunteers will need to complete our preparation course – the modules are online with 2 face to face days so participants have the opportunity to meet other family support volunteers and their Family Support Coordinators. All family support volunteers are requested to attend at least 3 volunteer coffee mornings a year for peer support and to help to refresh their training and knowledge.
