On Your Doorstep Befriending for St Rocco's Hospice

What would I be doing?

Volunteers go out into the community and visit clients who have life limiting illnesses. Volunteers will generally visit on a weekly or fortnightly basis for 2-3 hours. This will always be a pre-arranged visit Monday to Friday with special arrangements for occasional weekend/evening requests.You will be matched up to the client, duties may include, with agreement:

-sitting with you for a chat or whilst a carer goes out for a short period
- picking up prescriptions
- light housework (dusting, cleaning an interior window, vacuuming, ironing)
- shopping for a very small number of essential items, collecting prescriptions/pension
- accompanying you to/ providing transport for a medical appointment or a lift to church
- going out for coffee/ to watch a sports match etc.
- walking the dog
- bringing friends to visit you or helping to take visitors to see you in hospital/hospice
- Minor maintenance or light gardening

What skills do I need?

Good communication skills. Preferably a driver.
