Healthy and Home Visits - Guidance

Healthy and Home Visit Guidelines.

Home Preparation Check:

  • All information shared regarding the Beneficiary must be kept confidential and not shared with family, friends, colleagues etc.
  • Please ensure any Key Safe information is deleted from your phone/email as soon as the visit is completed.
  • If you are given a key to complete the visit this must be returned as soon as the visit is completed.
  • Always verify you are at the correct address prior to entering (e.g. 9A not 9B.)
  • Any concerns about the Beneficiaries home must be phoned through to Good Neighbours/Healthy and Home prior to leaving the visit.
  • If the Beneficiaries home poses any danger to the Volunteer (e.g. flooding, hoarding, exposed wiring etc), you must phone this through to the Good Neighbours/Healthy and Home Team and not progress with the visit, just ensure the house is secured on leaving and key is returned to Key Safe or to the office/hospital.

Hospital Discharge Arriving Back Home Visit:

  • Ring doorbell or knock, you may need to knock loudly and wait patiently due to low mobility or recipient being asleep
  • Stand back at least 2 metres away
  • If the recipient does not come to the door, remember to wait in case someone has low mobility and it takes them a while to get to the door. If you get no answer ring Good Neighbours or Healthy and Home before leaving.
  • If you are entering the property via a Key Safe or key, shout out when you enter to let the person know you are in their home, advise them of your name and that you are a Good Neighbours Volunteer.
  • If you are entering a property, please ensure you are wearing a mask unless medically exempt.
  • Volunteers are unable to assist with any personal care needs. If the Beneficiary advises they need assistance with any personal care, Volunteers are to advise them they are going to call Good Neighbours/Healthy and Home and we can contact their Care Providers, or Next of Kin to come and assist with this. Under no circumstances should Volunteers be assisting with this.

Things To Think About

  • DO NOT provide any assistance with personal care, finances or meal preparation – if the Beneficiary discloses that they need assistance with these then contact Good Neighbours/Healthy and Home.
  • DO NOT offer any advice or instructions on the use of the medicine (including over the counter medicines) – the recipient should be encouraged to contact the pharmacy if they have any queries
  • Respect and protect personal privacy. You may come into contact with, and use, confidential personal information about people such as names and addresses or even information about a customer’s circumstances, families, health or other private matters. You must not disclose any personal data to others. You must only use the data for the purpose for which it has been given.
  • Be sensitive to people and treat them with respect regardless of their gender, culture, sexual orientation, marital status, age, race, colour, ethnic or national origin, religious belief, disability or background.
  • All concerns MUST be phoned through during the visits, so we can provide assistance there and then. Good Neighbours contact number is 01925 246881, Healthy and Home contact number is 07926443710
